Accessibility at ClassCaption
We build for students who depend on accessible technology. Here's where we stand, what we support, and where we're still improving.
Accessibility Statement - ClassCaption
Last Reviewed: June 2026
Our Commitment
ClassCaption is built for students who depend on accessible technology every day. Accessibility is not a feature we added, it is the reason this product exists. We are committed to ensuring that ClassCaption itself meets the same standard of accessibility we help students achieve in the classroom.
Current Accessibility Support
ClassCaption is a browser-based application designed to work across modern devices and operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Chromebooks. The following accessibility features are built into the product:
Display & Readability
- Six named display themes including high-contrast options
- OpenDyslexic font option for students with dyslexia
- Adjustable font sizing throughout the transcription interface
- Focus Mode to reduce visual distraction during live sessions
Transcription & Captioning
- Live real-time captioning with word-level accuracy
- Audio Replay with word-level timestamps — tap any word to hear the original audio from that moment
- Keyword search within transcripts
- Full session transcript retained and exportable
Study Materials
- Structured ClassCards study packages generated automatically from session content
- PDF export formatted for readability and screen reader compatibility
- Bilingual English-French transcription support
Device Compatibility
- Full support for Chromebooks including IndexedDB audio storage and PDF download
- No software installation required — fully browser-based
WCAG Conformance
We are actively working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA — the standard referenced in the Accessible Canada Act and provincial accessibility legislation including Ontario's AODA.
A formal third-party accessibility audit and VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) are currently in planning. We will update this statement as conformance work progresses.
In the interim, we welcome direct conversations with institutional accessibility offices and IT departments regarding specific compliance requirements. We are committed to transparency about what ClassCaption currently supports and where we are still improving.
Known Limitations
We believe honest disclosure serves our users better than incomplete claims. The following limitations are currently present:
- Mathematical notation is not rendered — spoken math appears as text rather than formatted equations
- System audio capture may be limited on some Chromebook models depending on ChromeOS version
- A formal WCAG audit has not yet been completed — conformance is not yet independently verified
Compatibility with Assistive Technologies
ClassCaption is designed to function in Chrome, which has broad compatibility with assistive technologies including screen readers. We recommend Chrome with NVDA on Windows or Chrome with VoiceOver on macOS for the best experience. If you encounter compatibility issues with a specific assistive technology, please contact us directly.
Feedback & Contact
We take accessibility feedback seriously. If you encounter a barrier while using ClassCaption — or if you have specific institutional accessibility requirements you would like to discuss — please contact us directly:

For Institutional Procurement
If your institution requires a VPAT, specific WCAG conformance documentation, or information about our data handling and privacy practices for procurement review, please contact us directly. We are happy to work with your accessibility office and IT department to provide the information needed for your evaluation process.
